The Uganda Police Directorate of Forensic Services has been re-equipped with 32 scene of crime kits and 26 digital cameras, courtesy of the Justice Law and Order Sector (JLOS)

The kits were handed over to the Acting Director of Forensic Services Superintendent of Police Andrew Mubiru by Ms Racheal Musoke Odoi, the JLOS Senior Technical Advisor.

The handover ceremony took place at Police Headquarters Naguru on Thursday. SP Mubiru thanked JLOS for the continued support to Uganda Police Force and urged officers to take good care of the kits. He said the equipment will improve policing and morale of the officers while handling crime scenes.

“This is a basic equipment to any Scene of Crime Officer to manage crime scene and will help improve the quality of investigations,” he said.

Delayed dispensation of justice remains a challenge in Uganda's JLOS, partly blamed on sluggish and low quality investigation. Such re-equipment of the Police Directorate of Forensic Services, which is key in investigation of criminal cases, is a step in the right direction.
