President Museveni has appointed Professor Moses Muhwezi as the new Principal of Makerere University Business School (MUBS), succeeding Prof Waswa Balunywa, who retired in 2023 after leading the institution for 26 years.

This appointment, formalized under Article 172(1) of the 1995 Constitution of Uganda and documented in Advice No. ESC 001/2024, is on a local contract basis and is effective immediately for a five-year term. Prof Muhwezi is expected to drive MUBS forward, focusing on academic excellence and its impact on Uganda's business and management education sector.

With a strong background in academia and business management, Prof Muhwezi brings extensive expertise to the role. As MUBS continues to play a crucial role in shaping Uganda's entrepreneurial landscape, his leadership is anticipated to bring renewed growth and innovation to the institution.

Prof Muhwezi becomes only the second principal in the 28-year history of MUBS. His academic credentials include a PhD in Public Procurement from the University of Twente, The Netherlands, a Master’s in Public Procurement from the Maastricht School of Management, and an MBA in Accounting and Finance from Makerere University. He is also affiliated with multiple professional bodies, including the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (MCIPS) and the Institute of Public Procurement Professionals in Uganda.

With deep-rooted experience in education and as a former Dean of the Faculty of Entrepreneurship and Business Administration, Prof Muhwezi's journey from a humble background to academia is seen as a source of inspiration. His appointment has been met with optimism by the MUBS community and Uganda's wider educational sector, as many anticipate positive changes under his stewardship.
