UPDF Assures Participants of Security Ahead of Rwenzori Marathon

The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) has extended a warm welcome to runners, visitors, and supporters arriving in Kasese for the highly anticipated Tusker Lite Mt. Rwenzori Marathon. The Tusker Lite Mt. Rwenzori Marathon is scheduled for Saturday, August 24, 2024.

The UPDF, a key partner in the event, has pledged to ensure a safe and secure environment for all participants. In a statement, the UPDF emphasized its commitment to ensuring that participants can focus on the race and fully enjoy their time in Kasese. "We ask for cooperation from all attendees," the UPDF urged, highlighting the importance of vigilance. 

"We are committed to providing a conducive atmosphere where runners can focus on their race and enjoy the natural beauty of the region," the statement read.

"If you notice anything suspicious or concerning, please report it immediately to the nearest security personnel or UPDF officers, who will be stationed throughout the event ready to address any concerns."

The Tusker Lite Mt. Rwenzori Marathon, which celebrates resilience, determination, and unity, has grown since its inception in 2022. The event not only promotes health and athleticism but also raises awareness about environmental conservation, a cause close to the heart of the marathon's organizers.

As the marathon gets underway, the UPDF assured participants and spectators alike that they have a "loyal and dedicated partner" in ensuring a successful and enjoyable event for all involved.

Certified by World Athletics, the Tusker Lite Mt. Rwenzori Marathon is expected to attract global participants, further boosting Uganda’s profile in the international running community. According to the organaisers, this year’s event will host participants from Uganda and 32 other countries.

"We look forward to a successful and enjoyable event for all involved," the UPDF added, assuring all attendees of their support and dedication throughout the marathon.

According to the organisers, the marathon offers a chance to experience the region’s beauty, including the snowcapped peaks of the Rwenzori Mountains, Queen Elizabeth National Park, and a boat cruise on Lake Edward.
