UPDF Generals, MPs in Friendly Football Match to Mark Gen Kainerugaba Birthday

UPDF Generals and Members of Parliament will on Friday, 29th April, 2022 participate in a friendly football game as part of the activities to mark the Commander of Land Forces, Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s 48th birthday.

Over the weekend, Kainerugaba’s birthday was widely celebrated in Kampala and some parts of the country with various activities and huge crowds who gathered to toast to his new life.

In a letter dated April 25, 2022, the UPDF Joint Chief of Staff, Maj Gen Leopold Kyanda has confirmed that UPDF Generals will tussle out with MPs in a soccer game that will start at 3pm at Philip Omondi Stadium in Lugogo. This was upon the MPs’ request to the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) asking for a friendly match to celebrate Gen Muhoozi’s life.

“On behalf of the UPDF, I wish to thank you for coming up with this novel idea for the UPDF Generals to further interact with Members of Parliament through sports. This is a golden opportunity that we would not wish to miss,” Gen Kyanda said in his reply letter to Hon Linos Ngompek, the Captain of the Parliamentary football club.

This is not the first time UPDF Generals have engaged in such games intended to bridge the social gap with the public. Recently, the Generals played a football game with journalists at the same stadium.
