The people of Soroti District have vowed to vote all NRM flag bearers for various political positions for the first time saying they are "tired of voting FDC."

Whereas Teso sub region usually votes for NRM, the mother district of Teso-Soroti has remained predominantly for the opposition Forum for Demcractic Change (FDC) for the last 20years.

However, with FDC burning in flames, the people of Soroti are making a U-turn to vote for NRM ruling Party urging that they have not benefited much from voting FDC. Soroti recently acquired a city status, but has only been allocated Shs6bn while other new cities have up to Shs40bn. For example, Shs21.69b had been earmarked for Fort Portal, Shs26b for Arua City and Shs35b for Jinja City, Shs42.68b for Mbale, among others.

It is against this background [of inequitable distribution of resources] that people of Soroti now want to vote for NRM. They made the revelation during a campaign meeting organized by NRM Vice chairperson for Eastern region Capt Mike Mukula who today (Sunday) kicked off his campaigns for President Museveni and other NRM flag bearers in his home district of Soroti. Mukula held different meetings in Kamuda, Asuret and Gweri.

"We the people of Kamuda have been making mistakes. But this time around, we are not about to make the same mistakes [of voting FDC]. We voted for Besigye, voted for Osegge, voted for Adeke. Now we want to vote for Museveni, Leah Amigo [as Soroti Woman MP], Patrick Aeku [as Soroti County MP] and all NRM flag bearers," says John Echeku, NRM chairperson for Katine.

He added, “We are only appealing to our regional leader-Capt Mukula to help us kick out FDC in Soroti. Amigo is a mere primary teacher but she has stepped in to serve the people. Both Osegge and Adeke have eaten enough, so now it's time to support Amigo, Edoru [as Soroti LCV] and Aeku to uproot FDC from Soroti."

In all his meetings, Mukula reechoed the need to vote for President Museveni and NRM flag bearers if services are to be delivered to the people with ease. He emphasized on prevailing peace and security saying it is the biggest ingredient of economic development.

"Teso has seen insecurity for a long time, but never again shall we get instability. What are you still doing in FDC? Now there is also a party called NUP which was revived just 3months old and is being funded by people abroad. The leader of NUP has not been in parliament for even 5years and now he wants to be President. It's a big joke," Mukula said.

Mukula urged the people of Soroti to embrace government programs such as Emyooga, OWC, and youth livelihood fund etc in order to lift them from household poverty.
