Gen Kainerugaba, Japanese Ambassador Discuss Military Cooperation

The Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba yesterday hosted the Japanese Ambassador to Uganda H.E. Fukuzawa Hidemoto for a meeting in which they discussed military cooperation between Uganda and Japan.

Gen Kainerugaba who is also the commander of the UPDF Land Forces tweeted Thursday morning about the meeting held at the UPDF Land Forces headquarters in Bombo.

"We were honoured yesterday to host His Excellency Fukuzawa Hidemoto, Japan's Ambassador to Uganda. We discussed enhancing Uganda-Japan military cooperation. He also briefed us on the many great economic and social programs Japan conducts in Uganda. I thank him for his visit," Gen Kainerugaba tweeted.

Japan ranks among the first five countries with the most powerful armies in the world.

Uganda and Japan have been cooperating in various other aspects including the area of Infrastructure Development, Human Capital Development through numerous training; and in the Health Sector – through the provision of appropriate Medical Equipment and health systems strengthening and quality improvement.

Notably, Japan supported Uganda’s construction of the cable-stay bridge across the Nile River, Upgrading of Atiak-Nimule Road promotes economic activities between Uganda and South Sudan, the Kampala Flyover Construction and Road Upgrading Project, the Bujagali Interconnection Project and the improvement of Queensway power Substation among others.

Uganda also procured a fleet of road equipment from Japan that has helped build the country’s capacity to maintain its road infrastructure.
