Generals Koreta, Kutesa Among Retiring UPDF Generals

The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) announced the retirement of 14 general officers, and 604 senior and junior officers and men.

Gen Ivan Koreta who served as deputy CDF and army representative in Parliament is among those retiring. Lt Gen Pecos Kutesa is also on the list of retirees. He is also a former UPDF MP.

Defence Spokesperson Brig Flavia Byekwaso said the ceremony to retire the generals will be held at State House, Entebbe. The rest will be retired from their respective service headquarters, formations and units.

“The... UPDF recognises their commitment, sacrifice, selflessness and dedication to offering security service to the country at a time where many shunned joining the liberation struggle in favor of maintaining the status quo,” Brig. Byekwaso said.

“Because of their service, the country's course of history has been over turned across all spectrum, from an almost total shutdown to a now robust and sound economy with guaranteed peace and stability in the entire country.”

Some of the senior officers that have retired include Brig. Gen. J. Asiimwe, Brig. Gen. JA Kasaija, Brig. Gen. M Abiriga, Brig. Gen. MS Lukyamuzi, Lt Gen Pecos Kutesa, Maj Gen Fred Mugisha and Maj Gen Vincent Oula.
