First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports Janet Museveni met with a German investor who proposed to set up a technical university in Uganda.

“I met and welcomed a proposal by Dr. Elmar Wolff, a German investor, to establish a technical university with practice-oriented studies for students in need in Uganda,” the minister tweeted Wednesday afternoon.

According to the tweet, the university will offer sponsorship and scholarships to Ugandan students without money and access to university education.

“The students will also be awarded Ugandan and European certified degrees,” reads the tweet.

The Ugandan government is working hard to change the negative perceptions of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions, which have been identified as key centers for producing relevant skills for the local, national, and global labor markets.

A number of developments have been made by the government to improve TVET institutions especially in terms of infrastructure and funding.
