Taxi Operators Ask Govt to Develop System to Verify Covid Vaccination Cards
The Federation of Uganda Taxi Operators (UTOF) has asked the government to develop a system to help with verifying vaccination cards.
"Regarding passengers moving with their vaccination cards, we request the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Works and Transport to come with a system of identifying the genuine vaccination cards presented by our passengers," said UTOF Chairman Rashid Ssekindi in a Wednesday statement.
When the president allowed buses and taxis to resume carrying passengers at full capacity, he tasked them to ensure that they transport those that are vaccinated against Covid-19.
Ssekindi noted that over 90% of drivers and conductors are already vaccinated and they will ensure that all of them are vaccinated by January 10 when they commence carrying students.
He also noted that they will increase fuel prices a little due to the increase in fuel prices.
"We have reduced the fares because we are now carrying full capacity. However, due to the increase in fuel prices, we are compelled to increase a little in the fares to be commensurate with the fuel prices and all stages are advised to stick to the agreed-on prices. We shall ensure school-going children are safely transported to their destinations," he said.
