Maj Gen James Birungi Replaces Abel Kandiho as CMI Boss
Former Commander of UPDF Special Forces Maj Gen James Birungi has been appointed Chief of Military Intelligence, replacing Maj Gen Abel Kandiho, the Kampala Post has learnt.
Maj Gen Kandiho has now been posted to South Sudan as a Uganda's special envoy.
Gen Kandiho is now heading to Juba to take up Gen Birungi's position where a UPDF team is, on behalf of the guarantors of the South Sudan peace signed in February last year, working with South Sudan forces to monitor the parties’ compliance with the pact.
The Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations and Commander Land Forces Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has congratulated the two officers.
"I congratulate both Maj.General Abel Kandiho and Maj.General James Birungi on their new appointments. Hongera sana," Gen Kainerugaba posted on his Twitter handle.
