Soroti Chief Magistrate Aanyu Dies after Short Illness

The Judiciary is mourning the death of Soroti Chief Magistrate, Margaret Aanyu. 

Aanyu died on Sunday at Kampala Hospital after a short illness.

The judicial fraternity has eulogised the late as a hardworking, charismatic and committed judicial officer who was enthusiastic about life, judicial service and was always available to share her vibrancy with all those she interfaced with.

"As the Judiciary family, we shall greatly miss the charming and charismatic personality of the HW Aanyu...She will be remembered in the annals of the Judiciary fraternity as a hardworking, charismatic and committed Judicial Officer who offered service beyond self," an eulogy from Judiciary reads. 

Aanyu joined the Judiciary in 2009 as a Magistrate Grade One. In February 2021, Aanyu was promoted to the position of Chief Magistrate and was deployed to Soroti Magisterial area where she has been serving until her time of death.

She also served as Chairperson, Mengo Court Commercial Justice sub-committee, 2012-2013. She was admitted and enrolled to the Roll of Advocates of the High Court in 1998 having started her legal career in 1996 in private practice.

According to the tentative burial programme, there will be a vigil at the late's home in Kito, Mamerito Road on Wednesday and funeral mass at St Charles Lwanga Catholic Church, Ntinda, and thereafter, the body will leave for St Jude, Catholic Church, Bukedea ahead of another mass on Friday. Aanyu's body will be laid to rest on Saturday in Kasooka, Bukedea.
