The Special Forces Command construction regiment has started fixing potholes in the city roads, joining Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) efforts.

The SFC engineers kicked off the works at Prince Charles Drive in Kololo where our reporter found the engineers filling up the potholes. After completing the works at the aforementioned areas, the construction regiment will proceed to Kiyembe Lane, downtown Kampala on Friday where they will work on some sections of the dilapidated roads there.

According to a team of SFC engineers on ground, at least 19,324 Square metres (approximately 3 kilometres) of potholes and section repairs will be covered before the end of December this year.

Additionally, they will focus on other roads, including sections along Musajja Alumba, Burton Street, Rashid Khamis Road, Old Kampala Ring Road, and various others.

It is important to recall that in May of this year, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations, held a meeting with the Kampala Capital City Authority Executive Director, during which he was briefed on the condition of the roads and general infrastructure.

Ms. Dorothy Kisaka, the KCCA ED, alongside KCCA engineers, provided a comprehensive overview of the ongoing projects aimed at improving the appearance of Uganda's capital.

At that time, Gen Kainerugaba toured the industrial area to witness the state of the roads, accompanied by a leading engineer from the SFC engineering brigade. He had previously expressed his concern about the inadequate road conditions and the sewerage system, tweeting that he would soon address the "Kampala mess."

Following Gen Kainerugaba's inspection of the dilapidated roads, President Yoweri Museveni issued a directive in June, instructing Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja to "coordinate with the relevant government agencies to enable KCCA to collaborate directly with the SFC Construction Regiment" for the pothole repairs.

The President relayed in a letter to Nabbanja that the SFC construction regiment would complete the work at a significantly lower cost than what profit-seeking contractors would charge.

Furthermore, it is noteworthy that since Gen Kainerugaba's inspection of the potholes in May, several roads, including those in the industrial area and Sir Apollo Kaggwa Road, have been rehabilitated, resulting in improved traffic flow.
