President Yoweri Museveni has announced that the First Lady, Maama Janet Museveni, has triumphed over COVID-19. This comes less than a week after the president informed the nation that Maama Janet had gone into isolation following a positive Covid test.

In a message addressing the citizens, especially the Bazzukulu, President Museveni conveyed his felicitations for ending 2023 and entering 2024, emphasizing that despite the challenges of the past year, the nation had moved forward.

President Museveni proceeded to share the encouraging update: "Good news: Maama Janet has defeated Coronavirus. This morning, her samples were sent to Mbarara and they were all negative. Thank you for your prayers."

This confirmation of Maama Janet's recovery from the virus brought immense relief to the Ugandan populace who had been praying for her well-being.

Recounting his own COVID-19 tests, the President revealed that his results had also been negative, and he seized the opportunity to address the latest medical observations.

He mentioned that health professionals had expressed a belief that the virus spreads more through contact—particularly touching one's face, including the eyes, nose, and mouth—rather than solely through breathing.

President Museveni sought clarification on this matter from Health Minister Hon. Jane Aceng, urging her to provide insight to the public.

Relaying the good news of Maama Janet's release from self-isolation, he lauded her courage in battling the virus and expressed gratitude for her recovery.

President Museveni emphasized the need for vigilance in safeguarding against the virus, pinpointing items such as door handles, tables, and armchairs as potential carriers that require regular sanitization. The President also advocated for minimizing handshakes to limit the spread of the virus.

As the country celebrated the First Lady's recovery, President Museveni's announcement instilled a sense of hope and reinforced the importance of measures to combat the COVID-19 pandemic. The news of Maama Janet's triumph over the virus served as a positive start to the new year, fostering a collective sense of resilience and perseverance within the Ugandan community.
