As alleged Firebase crew member and People Power activist Michael Alinda (Ziggy Wine) is buried in his home district of Mitooma, it has emerged that the deceased failed to take medication to stop convulsions after he was discharged from Mulago Hospital.
An Independent investigation by journalist Andrew Mwenda on Wednesday morning established from Mulago hospital doctors that after being treated for head and hand injuries following a motorbike accident on July 21, Ziggy Wine was discharged four days later on July 25th. According to the doctors, while at home, the patient did not take his medicines to stop convulsions which led to his re-admission on July 31st.
“The damage caused by Ziggy not taking his medicines (when he was home) is what led to his death. The doctor told me not taking medicines caused convulsions which must have led to sucking fluids into his lungs,” Mwenda wrote. It, however, remains unclear why the musician could not take medication to save his life after a horrible accident.
Mwenda’s findings come just a day after police announced on Tuesday evening that Alinda who died on Sunday had succumbed to injuries sustained during a motorcycle accident. Police Spokesperson Fred Enanga said Ziggy Wine was involved in an accident on July 21, 2019. According to Enanga, during the accident, Ziggy Wine was badly injured and was rushed to Rubaga Hospital by Good Samaritans. He was later referred to Mulago Hospital where he succumbed to injuries he had sustained from the accident.
The police’s findings cleared the air, ending a week of speculation on circumstances surrounding Ziggy Wine's death. Earlier, reports had indicated that the little known singer had been kidnapped, tortured and later dumped at Mulago hospital where he succumbed to the injuries. This account was picked by opportunistic politicians in the People Power outfit led by Kyadondo East MP Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine. The MP claimed that Ziggy Wine was his comrade and a member of his singing group although he had not been involved in the visible political activities.
Are Relatives Playing Games also?
In the statement on Tuesday Enanga said Alinda’s relatives were well aware of the circumstances under which the singer had suffered life-threatening injuries but they had not informed the police. The police claim corroborates Mwenda’s findings that the relatives maintained assault claims despite being well aware that their son had involved in a nasty motorcycle accident and had helped identify him at Mulago Hospital.
“His family came on 24th and identified him. He recovered and was discharged on 25th. However, when he left, he did not take his medicines to stop convulsions, which led him to be readmitted on 31st. Before then, his family took him to Nsambya and claimed he had been assaulted. Nsambya referred him back to Mulago. Again they claimed assault. Mulago wrote “query” this assault claim on the readmission form,” Mwenda wrote.
