Kireka-Namugongo Road Undergoes Major Maintenance: Traffic Restrictions Announced

Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) announced the roll-out of maintenance activities along the Kireka - Namugongo Road, which covers 8km.

The project, which will be conducted in collaboration with Uganda Traffic Police and Stirling Civil Engineering Limited, will begin on on Saturday, March 16, and is expected to be complete by the end of May.

The physical works will entail resurfacing the main carriageway and installation of road safety facilities.

"Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) in collaboration with Uganda Traffic Police and
Stirling Civil Engineering Limited wishes to inform all road users about upcoming maintenance activities along the Kireka —Namugongo road (8km), commencing on Saturday, March 16th, 2024, and expected to be complete by the end of May 2024, reads the statement released on Tuesday, March 12. "The physical works will entail resurfacing of the main carriageway and installation of road safety facilities."

During the maintenance period, reads the statement, traffic will be restricted to one lane while the other lane undergoes repair. 

According to UNRA, there will be temporary closures of road sections during asphalt concrete overlay operations, with traffic diverted to nearby alternative routes. "Both the Traffic Police and the Contractor's safety team will be present on-site to assist with road users accordingly," reads the statement.

The maintenance works are aimed at enhancing the road's surface condition and safety, ensuring
excellent satisfaction and comfort for all road users.
