Uganda, Norway Sign MoU to Bolster Political Consultations and Bilateral Relations
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Political Consultations with the Royal Norwegian Embassy. This event, attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gen. Abubakhar Odongo Jeje, and Her Excellency Kristin Hermansen, Ambassador of Norway to Uganda, marks a significant milestone in the enduring relationship between the two nations.
In his speech, the Minister underscored the strength and tangible benefits of the Uganda-Norway relationship over the years, expressing deep appreciation for this partnership. He acknowledged Norway's decision to close its embassy in Kampala but welcomed the assurance that bilateral relations will continue to thrive.
The Minister emphasised that the MoU serves as a crucial framework for ongoing collaboration, ensuring smooth bilateral relations despite the absence of a resident Norwegian Diplomatic Mission in Kampala. He also welcomed the decision to accredit the Norwegian Embassy in Dar es Salaam to manage relations with Uganda, reinforcing the commitment to maintaining and strengthening ties.
The Government of Uganda remains committed to nurturing and expanding its fruitful partnership with Norway. The Ministry looks forward to building on shared successes and exploring new avenues of cooperation.
The Ministry extends its best wishes to Her Excellency Ambassador Hermansen and her staff in their future endeavours.
