Good Roads, Electricity Key in Making Housing Affordable

For the fourth consecutive year, Uganda’s electricity sector is Africa’s best regulated across a number of key metrics, according to the African Development Bank’s 2021 Electricity Regulatory Index.
With support from the African Development Bank and other partners, the Ugandan government has launched the last-mile connectivity component under the Uganda Rural Electricity Access Project in Iganga in the eastern Luuka District.
Today, a coalition of global energy sector leaders launched a first-of-its-kind integrated energy pilot in Uganda.
The Minister of Energy and Mineral Development Dr. Mary Goretti Kitutu announced the resumption of the Electricity Connections Policy (ECP), which had been put on hold in December 2020 due to financial constraints. It had started in 2018.
President Yoweri Museveni, who is also the NRM Presidential flag bearer, on Monday afternoon commissioned a 189-megawatt power sub-station to serve the Mukono Industrial Park in Mukono district.

Umeme, the electricity distributor, has closed its technical centre in Lugogo, Kampala after three staff tested positive for the coronavirus, Peter Kaujju, the company’s head of communications, said on Wednesday afternoon.
