UPDF has commissioned a modern multi-million library at Entebbe Air Force Secondary School, boosting digital learning and easing academic pressure for nearly 3,000 students.

The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) has commissioned a multi-million library at Entebbe Air Force Secondary School, boosting academic infrastructure and expanding access to learning resources for nearly 3,000 students.

The facility aims to strengthen the school’s academic environment and improve student performance through enhanced research and digital learning.

Representing the Commander Air Force, the Deputy Commander Air Force, Major Gen David Isimbwa, urged students to make proper use of the new resource.

“This library should be used to improve learning and academic performance. It must be protected and properly utilised,” he said.

Maj Gen Isimbwa also praised partners who contributed computers and other materials, noting that collaboration is key to improving education standards.

The Joint Staff, Formal Education, Sports and Culture, Brigadier General Richard Karemire, commended the school’s academic progress. He described it as one of the best-performing institutions among army schools.

“Our schools must be factories of patriotism and also provide good education to the children of soldiers so that airmen can concentrate on duty without worrying about their children’s education,” Brig Gen Karemire said.

He announced a commitment of Shs100 million for the construction of a two-classroom block in the next financial year. He said the project will help reduce congestion and eliminate temporary learning spaces.

The Headteacher, Major Nathan Ampaire, credited the school’s progress to strong support from stakeholders.

He said the school plans to expand infrastructure to match its growing student population of 2,895. He cited the need for more classrooms, textbooks, computers, dormitories, a playground, and a main hall to support assemblies and activities.

Partners also supported the initiative. Menzi Aviation donated 16 standalone computers to strengthen digital learning, while the Rotary Club of Entebbe continues to mentor students and support environmental activities.

Leaders and community representatives attended the commissioning. They included the Mayor of Entebbe Municipality, Mr Fabrice Rulinda, officials from Entebbe Municipal Council, religious leaders, and representatives from the United Nations Regional Service Centre Entebbe.
