Mbarara Central Police Station has summoned Jeremiah Kamurari, the LCV chairman of Isingiro district after a student of Kampala International University (KIU) main Campus accused him of trying to rape her.
According to Rwizi Region Police Spokesperson Samson Kasasira, Patricia Katushabe, 21, filed the case on January 27.
The student, who resides in Endinzi B cell, Endinzi sub-county in Isingiro district, told police that the chairman drove her to a lodge in Ruharo, a suburb of Mbarara where he attempted to rape her.
Katushabe had gone to Kamurari to secure a stamp which was needed to pursue a sponsorship program.
“The victim had a document that needed LCV stamp as she had applied for a sponsorship and wanted a recommendation.
The victim had called the chairperson on phone the previous day and the chairperson directed her to find him in Mbarara Town,” the police spokesman said.
“On the 27/01/2021 the victim came to meet the chairperson for the stamp. They met at Stanbic bank where the chairperson told the victim to sit in a vehicle and they go for the stamp. The suspect drove up to a lodge in Ruharo, took [the] victim to a room where he attempted to rape her from.”
After fleeing the scene, Katushabe got help from people who were outside the lodge and they took her to Mbarara Police Station.
Kasasira says inquiries commenced and the suspect was contacted on phone and said he left the properties of the victim at Booma Hotel where they were recovered from.
He says the chairman has been summoned to the police station to record a statement.
