The King of Bunyoro Omukama Dr. Solomon Gafabusa Iguru 1 is dedicating his Kingdom to God as he marks 25 years on the throne on Tuesday.
Enthroned on June 11, 1994, following the restoration of kingdoms by NRM government, Iguru on Monday held a thanksgiving service at St. Peters Cathedral Duhaga in Hoima town. During the service, Omukama thanked God for his life and a united kingdom throughout the 25years.
Flanked by the Queen (Omugo) Margaret Karunga and members of his cabinet, Iguru challenged subjects to remain united and use available government infrastructure for development. Government has constructed roads, dams and other infrastructural projects in Bunyoro.
Iguru’s 25year reign is credited for promoting a good working relationship with the central government. In his message read by the Prime Minister Andrew Byakuataga, the king said in the 25 years achievements have been registered in areas of education, unity among stakeholders and promotion of legal marriages among others.
Bishop Samuel Kahuuma of Bunyoro Kitara Diocese, who led the thanksgiving service, commended the Omukama for always trusting in God, despite the fact that cultural leaders are known to be less religious.
The function to mark Bunyoro’s 25th Coronation Anniversary (Empango) is underway at Karuziika palace in Hoima town. President Yoweri Museveni is expected to grace the event.
