Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) will start recruiting local defence personnel next week.

“In line with the constitutional mandate to preserve and defend the territorial integrity of Uganda, the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs/Uganda People's Defence Forces shall conduct a nationwide general recruitment exercise for local defence personnel between 23 August - 16 September 2021,” Brig. Flavia Byekwaso, the defence spokesperson, said in a Thursday statement.

According to the statement, applicants will be required to submit handwritten applications to the office of the RDC strictly between August 23 – 27.

In the application letter, they must indicate nationality, age, marital status, National Identity card and academic credentials.

Brig. Byekwaso says short-listed candidates will be published and pinned at district headquarters between September 2 - 16 after which dates of reporting to recruitment centres will be announced.

To qualify, you must be a Ugandan citizen aged 18-29 years, “medically, physically fit, [own a] UCE certificate or artisan certificate, with good conduct and no criminal record.”

Applicants will also need a letter of recommendation from the LC 1 or GISO. (See details in the statement below).
