Parliament has taken a strong measure in the fight against the spread of COVID-19 by blocking unvaccinated people from accessing its premises.

The Deputy Speaker of Parliament Anita Among announced on Friday, that henceforth, people including staff, who are not vaccinated should not access the Parliamentary premises. Among directed the Clerk to Parliament, Adolf Mwesige, to ensure that whoever comes to the premises of Parliament must present a COVID-19 vaccination certificate.

"This morning I also directed the clerk to Parliament to ensure that any one who comes to the premises of Parliament has a vaccination certificate. We need to take the COVID threat seriously and encourage vaccination across the Country," Among tweeted.

While addressing the nation on COVID-19 yesterday, President Yoweri Museveni assured the country that come January 2022, all sectors of the economy will be fully reopened whether citizens embrace the vaccine or not.

Despite availability of vaccines in the country, the uptake is still low. As of 21st October, only 2.5m Ugandans have received at least one dose while 415,486 had been fully vaccinated.
