Bitter 'Imbalu' Disagreement Leaves Four Family Members Dead
The Police in the eastern Uganda district of Bugiri are investigating an incident in which a man hacked three members of his family to death before he was killed by angry residents.
The man is said to have hacked to death his 60 year old mother and two other family members in Kasheba village, Nsango parish, Buluguyi sub county, Bugiri district.
The police say Mr Shaban Wakholi, 43 grabbed a panga and cut three people including his mother Susan Cherot 60, a nephew Kiza Mutwalib, 6 and sister in law Justine Namuhufe aged 30 years.
In a statement, the Busoga East police spokesperson Diana Nandaula said, “Preliminary investigations indicate that Shaban was enraged when family members took his kids for the Bagisu circumcision ritual commonly known as ‘Imbalu’ yet he preferred the Muslim way.”
Imbalu is a circumcision ritual among the Bagisu where adolescent boys are circumcised without following clinical protocols.
After hacking the trio to death, it is reported that locals descended on him, beating him to death.
In the ensuing scuffle, Godfrey Mukhooli another family member brother was seriously injured.
Police has recovered the four bodies and conveyed them to Bugiri hospital for postmortem.
