Stampede as Embattled MP Zaake Attempts to ‘Break into Office’
Mityana Municipality MP Francis Zaake on Wednesday attempted to forcefully access his former office in the parliamentary commission following court reinstatement.
Last month, the Constitutional Court squashed the Parliament’s decision to impeach Zaake as a parliamentary commissioner on ground that the MP was denied a fair hearing during the impeachment process.
Zaake was in March this year impeached for uncouth conduct and misbehavior contrary to the Parliamentary decorum and Rules of Procedure. As a result, Zaake was stripped of his entitlements and privileges as a commissioner which among others included office space, bodyguards, chauffeured motorvehicle etc.
Upon court reinstatement, Zaake today attempted to access his office on the 6th floor of the North Wing, a floor designated for parliamentary commissioners. The office has since been locked ever since the National Unity Platform (NUP) legislator was impeached.
To his dismay, Zaake found the office locked and his attempt to forcefully enter the office was in vain as the Sergeant-At-Arms told him the office space is only designated for commissioners and that he (Zaake) was not one.
Sergeant-At-Arms instead showed him a new office at the Queen Chambers outside the parliamentary building.
In March 2023 soon after his impeachment, the Clerk to Parliament, Adolf Mwesige wrote to Zaake informing him of his new office.
“The purpose of this letter is to inform you that you have been allocated office Number 3.1 located at Queen Chamber Building on Parliamentary Avenue,” the letter reads.
