Gen Kainerugaba Highlights the Importance of Educating the Girl Child

The Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has emphasized the significance of supporting the education of the girl child, underscoring a quote by Mao Zedong who said that "women hold up half the sky."

Gen Kainerugaba elaborated on the saying by the former Chinese leader, stating, "What he meant by that is that women hold up half the society." He further noted that if half of the society is disabled because the girl child is not receiving an education, the society as a whole is disabled. He emphasized that a free, prosperous, and stable society cannot exist when the girl child and women, in general, are not represented.

During his speech at a fundraising dinner for a multipurpose hall for Bishops’ Girls School Rushere, Gen Kainerugaba expressed his gratitude to Bishop Stephen Namanya for spearheading the initiative to establish the only girl-child school in the North Ankore diocese, encompassing the districts of Kiruhuura and Kazo.

The event was attended by distinguished individuals, including members of parliament, UPDF Generals, and members of the business community. Notable attendees included Lt Gen (rtd) Henry Tumukunde, Maj Gen (rtd) Stephen Kashaka, Hon Wilson Kajwengye, Amb Michael Katungi, and Hon Joanne Okia, among others.

Gen. Kainerugaba highlighted his wife, Charlotte, as an excellent role model for the girl child in Rushere, where the school is located, and acknowledged her commitment to the cause.

Lady Charlotte, who was the chief guest at the event, expressed her admiration for the school's cleanliness and organization, despite its young age. She explained that she visited the school after she had been asked to be the chief guest at the fundraising event.

She also expressed her gratitude for her husband's support for the initiative and praised his dedication to both his country and the less fortunate.

During the event at the Protea Hotel in Kampala, a total of 555,150,000 UGX was raised, which is more than half of the 900 million UGX goal for the new main hall at Bishop's Girls School Rushere.

Gen. Kainerugaba and his family contributed 50 million UGX, while friends and family, including the Ruparelia Foundation (10 million), the Kutesa family (22 million), and the Natasha and Karugire family (5 million), collectively raised over 40 million UGX.

The fundraising dinner was not only successful in reaching its financial objective but also served to raise awareness of the importance of educating the girl child, an initiative that was widely supported by the Ugandan community present at the event.
