Four months after an initial visit by a Chinese business delegation from Weifang City, Shandong Province, another high-level delegation comprising 30 members has arrived in Uganda to explore investment opportunities.

This delegation is led by Liu Jianjun, the Mayor of Weifang City. During their first visit on March 26, 2024, the Weifang Bureau of Commerce committed to sending a private sector delegation to Uganda to investigate various business prospects. Mayor Jianjun highlighted their interest in sectors such as Agriculture, Oil & Gas, Real Estate, Manufacturing, Construction, ICT, Machinery, Automobiles, and Healthcare.

He also emphasised their plans to enhance Ugandan exports to China. Upon welcoming the delegation, Uganda Investment Authority's Director General, Robert Mukiza, praised Weifang City for fulfilling its promise of sending a substantial investment delegation to Uganda.

Mukiza highlighted Uganda's vast investment opportunities, numerous incentives, political and economic stability, secure environment, high profitability, access to lucrative markets, and a skilled young workforce.

"Investing in Uganda provides access to markets within the East African Community, the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa, and across the African continent. Establish your headquarters here and reap the benefits. Upon your return to China, promote the advantages of investing in Uganda," Mukiza urged.

Mukiza also pointed out that Uganda is the third most profitable country in Africa, encouraging the delegation by saying, "If you want to make money, invest in Uganda and collaborate with the Uganda Investment Authority, which will facilitate your establishment swiftly."

The Director General reiterated that industrialisation is a top priority on President Yoweri Museveni’s development agenda and invited the Chinese investors to participate actively. "I look forward to seeing a Weifang Industrial Park here, including a pathogenic research facility," Mukiza added.
