President Yoweri Museveni met with over 100 musicians at State House, Entebbe, on Wednesday, August 21, in a gathering organised by the Commissioner of Patriotism-Office of the President, Ms. Hellen Seku. The event saw the attendance of prominent artists such as Bebe Cool and Jose Chameleone, led by Uganda Musicians Federation President Eddy Kenzo.

During the meeting, President Museveni reiterated the government's commitment to supporting the music industry, encouraging musicians to use their talents to spread the National Resistance Movement (NRM)’s wealth creation message across the country. “This will strengthen our efforts to eradicate poverty and enhance the well-being of all Ugandans,” Museveni remarked.

He called on the musicians to demonstrate patriotism by composing songs that contribute positively to national development. To further this cause, the President instructed Commissioner Seku to organise patriotism and ideological training for musicians before the year's end.

President Museveni also cautioned against identity politics based on tribal and religious lines, warning that such divisions could lead to underdevelopment and conflict. He advised the musicians to focus on promoting politics of interest, which is essential for the nation's prosperity.

Eddy Kenzo raised concerns about the lack of protection for artists' intellectual property rights and appealed to President Museveni to expedite the passing of a copyright law to safeguard their work.

The musicians expressed their appreciation for the President’s engagement and pledged their support for government programs aimed at socio-economic transformation.

The meeting was also attended by key government figures, including the Minister of Gender, Labour and Social Development, Betty Amongi, and the Minister of State for Gender and Culture, Peace Mutuuzo, among others.
