President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has been praised for his commitment to transforming the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) into a modern, professional military. The President’s emphasis on education and training has been credited as a key factor in the UPDF's success, creating a force that is "lethal, productive, and pro-people."
During a pass-out ceremony for officers who completed the Advanced Intelligence Course at the School of Defence Intelligence and Security in Migyera, Nakasongola, Maj. Gen. David Mugisha, representing the Chief of Defence Forces, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, commended Museveni’s focus on establishing specialized training schools.
"President Museveni’s leadership and investment in military education has built a reliable, disciplined force capable of defending the nation," said Maj. Gen. Mugisha. He also reminded the graduating officers of their duty to the country, urging them to use their new skills in service of the nation. “Remember, you’re serving the nation, not just yourselves.”
Brig. Gen. Julius Mbaine, speaking on behalf of the Chief of Defence Intelligence and Security, stressed the importance of the training in preparing officers to confront modern challenges, particularly in areas such as cyber security.
Col. James Muhumuza, Commandant of the School, emphasized the need for officers to continuously develop their skills, saying, “Understanding the strategic environment and maintaining professional discipline is crucial for success.”
The ceremony was attended by high-ranking military officials and representatives from the Uganda Police Force and Uganda Prisons Service, highlighting the cross-disciplinary approach to Uganda’s security development under President Museveni’s leadership.
The President’s focus on military education continues to shape the UPDF into one of Africa’s most reliable and professional defense forces.
