Deputy CLF Urges Ideological Clarity, Discipline in Global Security
Maj Gen Francis Takirwa, Deputy Commander of Land Forces, has called on Uganda's military personnel to prioritize ideological clarity and discipline as they face increasingly complex global and regional security challenges. Addressing trainees at the School of Artillery and Air Defence (SAAD) in Katakwi District, Maj Gen Takirwa emphasized the critical role of ideological studies in shaping effective military leaders capable of navigating the intricate landscape of global politics.
Speaking on behalf of the Commander Land Forces, Lt Gen Kayanja Muhanga, Maj Gen Takirwa inaugurated a week-long training course focused on deepening ideological understanding among soldiers. The training, known as the Level Three Man Course, aims to enhance the participants' ability to comprehend security issues on both a regional and international scale.
“Ideological studies are essential for understanding the complexities of global politics and security dynamics,” Maj Gen Takirwa stated, urging the trainees to adopt discipline and professionalism in their military service.
He also highlighted the importance of patience and perseverance in advancing within the ranks of the Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF), explaining that leadership carefully monitors and elevates those who demonstrate capacity and commitment. "It is through patience and perseverance that army leadership identifies someone’s capacity and elevates him or her to a higher level," he remarked.
Additionally, Maj Gen Takirwa urged the soldiers to safeguard their health and avoid substance abuse, emphasizing the necessity of maintaining focus on the army’s mission. In his concluding remarks, he reiterated the importance of the UPDF's core values of patriotism and Pan-Africanism, which guide the force's regional engagements and operations.
The event, held at the SAAD base in Olilimu, was attended by senior officers, including Col RD Kitwa, Commandant of SAAD, and Lt Col Asaba, Director of Political Education at Land Forces. The training course is seen as a significant step in preparing Uganda’s military personnel for future challenges in a rapidly changing global security environment.
