Gen Lokech Burial: UPDF Speaks on Thwarted Suicide Bombing
A joint security operation detained Abdul Katumba aka Ben, a suspected suicide bomber, who was captured at Mikicha Guest House located along Canigula Road in Pader Town Council.
Defence spokesperson Brig. Flavia Byekwaso says Katumba was found with an assortment of home-bomb making materials.
They include assembled homemade bombs, bomb carrier bags, ball bearings, suicide vests, detonators, ammonium Sulphate, wire cutters, switches, and mobile phones used to detonate the bombs.
According to Byekwaso, “investigations so far indicate that the suspect had intent of disrupting the funeral proceedings of Late Maj Gen Paul Lokech.”
The former deputy Inspector General of Police was laid to rest Thursday at his country home in Pader.
The defence spokesperson says they are still hunting for accomplices.
“Other accomplices in the heinous crime are still at large but have been positively identified and operations to apprehend them are underway,” she said. “The joint security forces are in control of the situation and the public is therefore urged to remain calm.”
