Unknown Militant Organisation Claims Responsibility for Attack on Joel Ssenyonyi's Home
One of Kampala Post's journalists has received an email from a group calling itself 'UPC Red Brigade'. This hitherto unknown group has claimed responsibility for last night's attack on the Bukoto home of Joel Ssenyonyi, the NUP spokesman.
The e-mail said the so-called 'Red Brigade' will continue targeting NUP leaders until they stop using the UPC party colour.
Red has always been the Uganda People's Congress party color since the 1960s. However, the Kampala Post cannot confirm whether the abbreviation 'UPC' that this group talks about is indeed the Uganda People's Congress or another unknown political organization.
The 'UPC Red Brigade' said they threw pamphlets with their warning to NUP at the scene of the attack last night.

There has been contention over identifying symbols between UPC and newly established NUP with UPC accusing NUP of illegally using their colour (Red) and phrase ‘everywhere’.
This follows the battle between the two parties for the colour red. UPC and the Electoral Commission have been warning NUP to stay off the colour which has been used by UPC for years.
While addressing journalists at the party headquarters in Kampala recently, UPC spokesperson, Ms Sharon Arach Oyat, said NUP needs to find some originality and stop riding on other parties’ already popularised symbols.
On many occasions, since the unveiling of the NUP party, members are heard chanting ‘NUP everywhere’, similar to UPC the chant and songs.
