National Resistance Movement (NRM) Members of Parliament are this afternoon scheduled to meet at the Office of the President to discuss forthcoming party elections.

According to the outgoing deputy chairperson of the NRM caucus Solomon Silwanyi, the caucus will meet the party Secretary General Justine Kasule Lumumba with her team from the secretariat including the NRM Electoral Commission chairperson Dr. Tanga Odoi to brief them on the party register exercise which started today countrywide.

“The Secretary General will give us information regarding the party register update exercise which is meant to ascertain the legal voters in the NRM party. She will also give us information regarding the party elections which are scheduled for mid this year,” Silwany said.

He added that NRM EC Dr Tanga will on the other hand brief the Members of Parliament on the right date when they will be voting the new deputy chairperson of party caucus following his [Silwany] recent appointment as Parliamentary commissioner.

Bulamogi County MP Kenneth Lubogo said that today’s caucus meeting is expected to discuss the new dates for Party primaries following recent adjustments by the National Electoral Commission.

“NRM had put out a timetable prior to changes in the times of nomination for presidential and parliamentary elections. Now that the dates for presidential and parliamentary elections have been communicated and nominations are expected in October, we then expect the party to postpone the primaries to around August. We shall probably also give views on what we think should be done to have a fair and free party elections,” Lubogo said.
