The fate of MP Jackson Kafuuzi remains unknown as newly appointed ministers take oath tomorrow (Monday) at State House, Entebbe.

The Kyaka South Member of Parliament in Kyegegwa district had his appointment as Deputy Attorney General challenged by the Parliamentary Appointments Committee on grounds that he lacked the seven year legal practicing experience required for one to be Attorney General. This was after the Committee learnt that the Deputy Attorney General designate had reportedly not renewed his practicing certificate since 2016 when he joined Parliament.

During the vetting session on January 3, this year, Speaker Rebecca Kadaga, who is the Chairperson of the Appointments Committee of Parliament promised to further investigate Kafuuzi's qualification and write to the President over the same. However, a day to the swearing in of the new Ministers, this Website could not establish if Parliament finally approved Kafuuzi’s appointment.

Efforts to reach Honourable Kafuuzi were fruitless as his known telephone was off at the time of publication. Sam Obbo, the Private Press Secretary to the Speaker said he had no information from the Appointments Committee on the matter, since the Speaker has been out of the country on official duty since last week.

Helen Kaweesa, the Acting Director Communication and Public Affairs at Parliament also denied knowledge on MP Kafuuzi,s vetting saying decisions of the Committee are always in-house and that such information can only be released the Speaker.

Asked on whether MP Kafuuzi had been extended a State House invitation for tomorrow’s swearing in, Senior Presidential Press Secretary Don Wanyama said anything to do with invitation of new Ministers for swearing in is done by the Secretary to Cabinet.

Kafuuzi was appointed Deputy Attorney General by President Yoweri Museveni in the recent cabinet reshuffle. He replaced Mwesigwa Rukutana who was re-appointed Minister of State for Labour, Employment and Industrial Relations.

The new ministers to be sworn in include; Hamson Obua, State Minister for Sports, Judith Nabakooba, Minister for ICT, Peter Ogwang, State Minister for ICT, Raphael Magyezi, Minister for Local Government, State Minsiter for Health (General Duties) Robinah Nabbanja and Hellen Adoa State Minsiter for Fisheries.

The ceremony will be conducted by the Chief Justice Bart Katureebe in presence of the appointing authority President Yoweri Museveni.
