Professor Pauline Byakika Appointed New Vice Chancellor of Mbarara University of Science and Technology

Professor Pauline Byakika-Kibwika has been appointed the new Vice Chancellor of Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST). The seasoned academic and public health expert will take over from Professor Celestino Obua on October 25, 2024.

Pauline Byakika is a Ugandan specialist physician, internist, epidemiologist, academic and researcher.

Following a rigorous selection process involving five finalists, Professor Byakika emerged as the top candidate. Her impressive track record in leadership and research, coupled with a strong academic background, made her the standout choice for the university.

As the new Vice Chancellor, she brings a wealth of experience to MUST. She previously served as the Head of the Department of Medicine at Makerere University College of Health Sciences.

She has demonstrated exceptional leadership in various roles, including research, academics, and student support. Renowned for her expertise in public health, particularly in areas like HIV, Malaria, and Tuberculosis, Professor Byakika is also a prolific researcher with an extensive publication record.
