The Ugandan Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has visited the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD).

Gen Kainerugaba who is also UPDF's Commander Land Forces, together with his delegation were welcomed by Ethiopia's Minister of Defense Mr Abraham Belay and the Director General National Intelligence and Security Service (NISS), Mr Temesgen Tiruneh on Tuesday morning.

Muhoozi kainerugaba

Formerly known as the Millennium Dam and sometimes referred to as Hidase Dam, the GERD is a gravity dam on the Blue Nile River in Ethiopia whose construction commenced in 2011 and was completed in 2020.

The dam is in the Benishangul-Gumuz Region of Ethiopia, about 45 km east of the border with Sudan.

Available information shows that the dam can hold up to 74 billion cubic meters of water, which makes it the largest hydropower project in Africa.

Gen Kainerugaba and his delegation have been in Ethiopia since Monday and have since toured several projects. The General is expected to meet Ethiopia's Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed before the end of his visit.
