The Ethiopian Ambassador to Uganda, Her Excellency Etsegenet Bezabih Yimenu, briefed Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, on the security situation in northern Ethiopia during a meeting at the SFC headquarters in Entebbe.
Ambassador Yimenu thanked Gen Kainerugaba for always according her time to meet before updating the Ugandan military leader on security developments in Ethiopia.

The ambassador also hailed ongoing military exchanges and training programmes between the two countries.
Ambassador Yimenu further hailed Gen Kainerugaba’s support for the Ethiopian National Defence Force, acknowledging his backing of Ethiopia’s unity and sovereignty, and reaffirmed Addis Ababa’s commitment to the Pretoria peace agreement.

Relatedly, she suggested that Kampala Capital City Authority technical teams should visit Addis Ababa to study and benchmark recent developments, citing the Ethiopian capital’s infrastructure boom as making it one of Africa’s fastest-growing cities in terms of infrastructure projects.
In response, Gen Kainerugaba reaffirmed the Uganda People’s Defence Forces’ solidarity with the Ethiopian military, noting that stability in Addis Ababa is good for the region and Africa.
Gen Kainerugaba expressed confidence that the security situation in northern Ethiopia would be resolved, and asked the Ambassador to convey his regards to his Ethiopian counterpart.

The meeting forms part of sustained efforts by Kampala and Addis Ababa to strengthen bilateral ties.
It should be noted that in December 2024, Gen Kainerugaba travelled to Addis Ababa for talks with his Ethiopian counterpart, Field Marshal Birhanu Jula. Their discussions covered intelligence sharing, officer training and defence productio


During the visit, Gen Kainerugaba also met Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed at the National Palace. He described Ethiopia as his “ancestral home” and said Uganda and Ethiopia were “blood brothers who can never be separated.” Gen Kainerugaba has also cited historical links between the two countries, including trade dating back to the Aksum Empire.
Uganda and Ethiopia formalised their defence partnership in July 2015 when they signed a memorandum of understanding to strengthen military cooperation and regional security.
