Members of Parliament from the Tooro Sub-region, led by Agriculture Minister Hon. Frank Tumwebaze, visited the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) Office of the National Chairman in Nakasero to formally endorse PLU Chairman Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba for the presidency in 2031.
The delegation, representing the Tooro Parliamentary Caucus, met PLU leadership, including the Head of the Chairman’s Office, Daudi Kabanda, and Director of Mobilisation Michael Mawanda, to express solidarity and align with its regional and national agenda.
The PLU Secretariat thanked the caucus, commending the lawmakers’ confidence, leadership and commitment to a united, patriotic and prosperous Uganda.
The endorsement marks another step in the PLU’s drive to consolidate political and regional support nationwide.
The Tooro declaration is the latest in a series of regional endorsements for Gen. Kainerugaba, who chairs the PLU.
The PLU recently announced Gen. Kainerugaba’s presidential bid for 2031 and beyond under the theme “Muhoozi Gwe Akimala.” It has since rolled out a nationwide endorsement and registration exercise, distributing endorsement books in 146 districts with a target of over 20 million signatures.
The Tooro endorsement follows a similar declaration by five Ankole sub-region MPs, who visited the PLU National Secretariat earlier in September to back Gen. Kainerugaba for 2031. Sebei voters and leaders have also urged him to contest, with former Kween Woman MP Emma Rose Cherukut saying the region would support him at the ballot. More than 15 ministers and over 200 MPs have pledged allegiance to the PLU.
Tooro is a longstanding NRM stronghold; in the 2026 local government elections, the party retained all District Local Council V chairperson seats there. Tumwebaze, MP for Kibale East County in Kamwenge District, is a senior regional figure and has previously served in various ministerial positions.
The Tooro endorsement adds to the PLU’s growing regional support ahead of future electoral cycles.
