Foreign defence attachés and military advisers accredited to Uganda have undertaken a strategic familiarisation tour across security, energy, and conservation installations in western and northern Uganda.
The outreach forms part of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) broader defence diplomacy strategy to provide international military diplomats with firsthand insights into the country's peace, stability, and national development priorities.
The delegation visited Murchison Falls National Park, the newly developed Kabalega International Airport in Hoima, and key installations within the Tilenga oil and gas development area.
Senior UPDF field commanders briefed the delegation on regional operational stability.
The 4 Infantry Division Commander, Major General Wilberforce Sserunkuma, and the Artillery Division Commander, Major General Daniel Kakono, provided detailed security assessments covering their respective operational zones.
Maj. Gen. Kakono reassured the defence attachés of robust security throughout the region, encouraging the military diplomats to experience Uganda’s diverse tourism and cultural heritage firsthand with their families.
At Murchison Falls National Park, the delegation received briefings on conservation management, park security, and ecotourism contributions to surrounding local host communities.
The diplomats inspected Kabalega International Airport in Hoima, reviewing Uganda’s expanding aviation infrastructure designed to anchor heavy logistical operations for the Albertine Graben oil economy.
In the Tilenga project area, the attachés toured operational installations, including the Operation Support Base, Drilling Support Base, and Construction Support Base.
Petroleum Authority of Uganda (PAU) Occupational Safety Officer, Mr. Damulira Silagi, briefed the attachés on safety protocols and local content compliance, noting that Ugandans comprise approximately 94 percent of the project’s direct workforce.
The tour concluded with cultural presentations showcasing the heritage of the Acholi and Banyoro communities, highlighting the historical legacy of the ancient Bachwezi dynasty.
