The East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) Ltd, in partnership with Hoima City, has started constructing the Nyamasoga–Katooke Road under its Socio-Economic Investment (SEI) programme.

The project aims to improve local infrastructure, enhance trade, and support community livelihoods along the pipeline route.

Located in Buseruka Sub-County, Hoima District, the 7.5-kilometre marram road connects the villages of Kayera and Katooke, home to about 6,500 residents across more than 600 households. Once completed, the road will boost connectivity to the Kaiso–Tonya Highway, easing access to trading centres such as Nyamasoga and Buseruka. It will also make it easier for residents to reach health facilities, schools, and markets.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony on November 5, 2025, JB Habumugisha, Deputy Managing Director of EACOP Ltd, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to sustainable community development.
“EACOP remains committed to ensuring that communities along the pipeline route benefit from improved infrastructure and social services. This road project demonstrates our dedication to supporting local development priorities in partnership with government authorities,” he said.

The project follows a request from Hoima District leaders to improve transport and accessibility in the area. The road, previously in poor condition and impassable by vehicles, will now support trade, market access, and economic activity once rehabilitated.

Hoima District Resident Commissioner, Rodgers Mbabazi, thanked EACOP for its continued collaboration and investment in local infrastructure. He said such initiatives are vital for improving living standards and advancing local development.

The road was officially commissioned by Mbabazi at a ceremony held at Katooke Trading Centre, attended by the area Member of Parliament, local councillors, the Chief Administrative Officer, and residents.
