A tragic pre-dawn collision on the Mbale–Iganga Highway has killed a school bus driver and left 15 passengers, including 13 geography students, hospitalized with injuries.

A fatal pre-dawn crash in Bugweri District has killed a school bus driver. The collision also left 15 passengers injured.

The incident occurred on Tuesday at about 4:45 a.m. along the Mbale–Iganga Highway. An Isuzu bus rammed into the rear of a stationary Mercedes-Benz Actros trailer.

The crash took place in Nawangisa Village. The bus driver, Kasakya Abdallah, 68, died at the scene.

The bus belonged to Amuria High School. The vehicle was carrying 73 students from St. Paul Secondary School, Katakwi.

The students were traveling to Kasenyi Landing Site in Entebbe for a geography study tour.

The injured victims include 13 students, one teacher, and the bus conductor.

Responders rushed the injured survivors to Iganga General Hospital.

Busoga East Regional Police spokesperson ASP Michael Kasadha confirmed the transport of the victims.

“The deceased’s body has been transported to Iganga General Hospital mortuary, while the injured victims have been rushed to Iganga General Hospital for treatment,” Kasadha said.

Towing crews moved both vehicles to Busembatya Police Station.

Kasadha noted that technicians will conduct mechanical inspections on the vehicles.

Police officers urged all motorists to remain alert during early morning transit.

Authorities also reminded drivers to obey road safety rules.
