The Chairman of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has named Speaker of Parliament Jacob Oboth Oboth and his deputy, Thomas Tayebwa, alongside several Cabinet ministers, legal experts, and media personalities to a newly overhauled Central Committee.
The appointments were announced on Monday morning through the General's official X account. This leadership shake-up aims to realign the civic organization with its evolving strategic goals following the completion of its initial phase of operations.
Gen. Kainerugaba, who also serves as the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), positioned the restructuring as a direct intervention to drive national economic growth.
"Our task as PLU is to achieve Mzee's target of a 500 billion dollar GDP by 2031!" Gen. Muhoozi declared. "I will supervise ALL government departments to achieve that goal."
In the fresh appointments, Defence Minister Kiryowa Kiwanuka joins as the new PLU Vice Chairman for the Buganda region, while Agriculture Minister Frank Tumwebaze also joins the Central Committee.
Other notable appointments include prominent presidential legal advisor Hussein Kashillingi, veteran international broadcaster Alan Kasujja, and Kwame Ruyondo, who will represent NRA historicals.
Meanwhile, Local Government Minister Balaam Barugahara retains his position as Vice Chairman for Western Uganda.
Outgoing Secretary General David Kabanda was also retained as an ordinary member of the Central Committee, following the earlier appointment of Hon. Twala Fadil as his replacement.
These structural changes mean the incoming executive team will immediately take charge of the group's regional coordination networks.
Additionally, Gen. Kainerugaba issued a directive directing all aligned Cabinet ministers and Members of Parliament serving within the central government and the legislature to actively monitor grassroots government programs.
