Leaders and supporters of the Patriotic League of Uganda in Lango have pledged to deliver 90 percent of the sub-region’s votes to the Chief of Defence Forces Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba in the 2031 presidential election.
The pledge came as thousands gathered at Lira City Mayor’s Garden on Sunday for the launch of the endorsement exercise Gen Kainerugaba, who is also the PLU for chairman.
Government Chief Whip Dr Jane Ruth Aceng, who coordinates PLU activities in Lango, organised the event.
Addressing the gathering, Daudi Kabanda, the head of the PLU Chairman’s Office, reiterated that the organisation was not a political party. He said PLU would pursue all its objectives through the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) and urged supporters to back both groups.
PLU director of mobilisation Michael Mawanda, State Minister for Relief, Disaster Preparedness and Refugees Sam Engola, NRM national vice-chairman for Northern Uganda Denis Hamson Obua and all MPs from the sub-region attended the event.
The Lira launch follows a series of endorsements by ministers, MPs and regional groups as PLU builds support for Gen Kainerugaba’s anticipated presidential bid.
PLU is collecting endorsements through physical books distributed to local structures and its online platform.
