The Deputy Chief of Defence Forces and Inspector General of the UPDF, Lt Gen Sam Okiding, represented Uganda at the 62nd anniversary celebrations of the Tanzania Peoples' Defence Forces (TPDF) in Dar es Salaam on Tuesday.
Lt Gen Okiding attended the event on behalf of the Chief of Defence Forces and Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba.
The Chief of Defence Forces of the TPDF, Gen Jacob John Mkunda, hosted delegations and representatives of defence chiefs from across East African Community (EAC) member states.
The anniversary coincided with the official closing ceremony of the 6th East African Community Armed Forces Civil Military Cooperation (CIMIC) Week.
The CIMIC initiatives brought together military personnel from six EAC partner nations: Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia, Uganda, and host nation Tanzania.
Participating contingents executed outreach programs, including free medical camps, aid donations to orphanages and penal institutions, and infrastructure renovations for public health facilities.
Brig Gen Michael Kibuye, the UPDF CIMIC Director, led a 22-member Ugandan military delegation to support community projects throughout the week.
Ugandan medical teams established two operational field camps in Zanzibar at SOS Children's Village and Mwera Mpongwe District Hospital.
The UPDF personnel assisted with structural renovations at the SOS Children’s Village and donated essential medical equipment to Segerea Prison in Dar es Salaam.
