Makerere University has entered a new partnership with the University of Notre Dame in Indiana, United States, opening the door for academic and research collaboration between the two institutions.
The agreement was formalised through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Makerere Vice Chancellor Prof Barnabas Nawangwe and Rev Robert A Dowd, the 18th President of the University of Notre Dame.
The signing ceremony took place at the University of Notre Dame campus in South Bend, Indiana.
Under the agreement, the two universities will cooperate in areas including staff and student exchange programmes, joint research, training initiatives and supervision of graduate students.
The partnership is also expected to strengthen academic ties between the institutions, both of which are recognised for research and higher learning.
The Chairperson of the Makerere University Council, Dr Lorna Magara, led the Makerere delegation during the visit to the United States.
Dr Magara welcomed the formalisation of the partnership and praised the hospitality extended to the delegation during their stay at the university.
The collaboration adds to Makerere University’s growing list of international academic partnerships aimed at improving research, innovation and global exposure for students and staff.
