Local Government Minister Balaam Barugahara led a delegation of Members of Parliament and Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) coordinators from the Bunyoro sub-region to the PLU Secretariat to endorse Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba for President in 2031 and receive endorsement books for the sub-region’s subcounties.
The delegation’s visit is the latest in a wave of regional endorsements that have turned the PLU Secretariat and the National Chairman’s Office into the endorsement hub for the 2031 initiative. The books will be distributed across Bunyoro’s subcounties as the organisation pushes towards its revised target of 25 million endorsements nationwide.
Gen Kainerugaba, the Chief of Defence Forces and PLU chairman, declared his ambition on August 25, 2026: “I will stand for the highest office in the land in 2031. And we will win by the grace of Almighty God.”
In a related development, former Vice-President Edward Kiwanuka Ssekandi also endorsed Gen Kainerugaba. He signed the PLU endorsement book and said “for continuity, Gen Muhoozi will be our candidate.”
Mr Ssekandi served as Speaker of Parliament from 2001 to 2011 and as Vice-President from 2011 to 2021. He joins former Vice-President Prof Gilbert Bukenya, who backed Gen Kainerugaba about three weeks ago, as well as tycoons Sudhir Ruparelia and Godfrey Kirumira, among thousands of other Ugandans from different walks of life.
The PLU has also collected endorsements from MPs across several sub-regions. In Ankole, five legislators declared support at the secretariat. In Buganda, more than 50 serving and former MPs gathered at Serena Hotel Kigo, while in Teso, over 300 leaders endorsed the CDF.
Similar endorsements are ongoing in several other parts of the country.
