Museveni Appoints Haruna Kasolo Acting Foreign Affairs Minister

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has appointed Hon. Haruna Kyeyune Kasolo as the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs in an official State House directive. Enacted under Article 99(1) of the Constitution, the appointment positions Hon. Kasolo to manage Uganda's foreign policy and global diplomatic engagements in the absence of a substantive minister.

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has appointed the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs (Regional Cooperation), Hon. Haruna Kyeyune Kasolo, as the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs.

The presidential directive is detailed in an official State House letter dated June 22, 2026.

President Museveni invoked executive powers vested in the presidency under Article 99(1) of the Constitution to make the temporary appointment.

The letter notes that Hon. Kasolo will steer the ministry in the absence of a substantive minister.

Hon. Kasolo expressed his gratitude to the President for the high-level appointment in a public statement.

"I am profoundly honoured by the trust and confidence reposed in me by H.E. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni through my appointment as Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs," Hon. Kasolo stated. "I extend my sincere gratitude to His Excellency for this opportunity to serve our nation in this capacity."

The newly appointed acting minister pledged to maintain the country's ongoing global diplomatic commitments with high professional standards.

"I remain committed to upholding Uganda’s foreign policy objectives, advancing our diplomatic engagements and serving with integrity, professionalism and unwavering dedication in the pursuit of our national interests," Hon. Kasolo added.
