President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni commended growing trade ties with China during a farewell meeting with the outgoing Chinese Ambassador.

The President hosted Ambassador Zhang Lizhong at his Kisozi country home in Gomba District. He congratulated the diplomat on completing his tour of duty in Uganda.

President Museveni highlighted a significant rise in Ugandan exports to China. He noted the total has reached $138 million.

Museveni Lauds Trade Gains at Chinese Ambassador's Farewell

“I am happy to note that Uganda’s exports to China have increased to USD 138 million, although this is still not enough and we should be able to do much more,” President Museveni said.

He welcomed China's recent decision to remove taxes on Ugandan exports. The President said this move will greatly support the country’s trade and wealth creation efforts.

The President also reaffirmed Uganda's commitment to Chinese investments.

“Regarding Chinese investments in Uganda, we have been supporting Chinese interests for a long time, and we shall continue to do so,” he noted.

Ambassador Lizhong expressed his gratitude to the President and the Ugandan government for their support during his tenure.
