A youth group calling itself Gen Z for Gen MK formally declared its support for Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s 2031 presidential bid at an event hosted by PLU National Vice Chairman Michael Nuwagira Toyota at the PLU Secretariat in Naguru.
The group said it communicated its endorsement through its National Coordinator, Kyarisiima Israel. The event also featured youth performances and testimonies under the theme “Unsung Hero.”
Toyota also flagged off the #GenZforGenMK Country Tour and Mobilisation Bus, launching the nationwide youth mobilisation campaign.

According to the movement, its support was based on Gen Kainerugaba’s military experience, institutional leadership and regional engagement. It cited his time commanding the Special Forces Command and his current role as Chief of Defence Forces.
The group pointed to military infrastructure, training capacity and personnel welfare as examples of institutional development it said it supported. It also cited his diplomatic engagement with Rwanda during efforts to improve relations between Kampala and Kigali.

Gen Z for Gen MK said it wanted stronger public institutions, better services and more opportunities for young people, and argued that Kainerugaba’s experience in national security and regional affairs made him its preferred leader for 2031.
The movement said the endorsement reflected its own political judgement and was not presented as a consensus among Uganda’s young people. It said the decision was intended to make its preference clear as the country looked towards the next election cycle.
