Traffic enforcement teams from the Uganda Police Force have impounded 178 Public Service Vehicles (PSVs) across the Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) area for operating in dangerous mechanical conditions.
The targeted traffic operation was launched to ensure commercial passenger vehicles meet mandatory road safety standards and protect commuters from avoidable mechanical road crashes.
Enforcement data from the operation shows that traffic officers impounded 63 vehicles in KMP North, 62 in KMP South, and 53 in KMP East.
Police authorities confirmed that the seized commuter taxis and buses are currently held at various regional police stations pending mandatory technical rectifications.
Traffic police emphasized that commercial vehicles with worn-out systems and poor maintenance endanger passengers, pedestrians, and other road users.
Police warned that road safety is a shared responsibility and directed all PSV owners, operators, and drivers to repair mechanical defects before returning their vehicles to the road.
The Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety confirmed that intensified vehicle inspections will continue across all metropolitan corridors until full compliance is achieved.
