The Speaker of Parliament, Jacob Oboth Oboth, has challenged national leaders to adopt the moral clarity and integrity demonstrated by the outgoing Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, The Most Rev. Dr. Stephen Kaziimba Mugalu.
The Speaker delivered the message during a farewell service at St. Peter’s Cathedral in Tororo.
Speaker Oboth commended the prelate for restoring accountability as a core value in public governance.
"For those entrusted with public responsibility, your firm moral voice has given us confidence to do what is right, even when it is difficult," Oboth stated during his address.
"You have reminded us that leadership is not simply about holding office but holding trust on behalf of the people and ultimately before God," he added.
The Speaker traced the Archbishop’s rise from a Sunday school teacher and choir member to the head of the Anglican Church in Uganda.
He described this journey from "grass to grace" as a model of faithful public service.
Dr. Kaziimba expanded ecclesiastical involvement in healthcare, education, livelihood development, and peacebuilding projects across the country.
His administration notably mobilized resources to clear the Shs 60 billion debt on the Janani Luwum Church House.
In his address to the congregation, Archbishop Kaziimba appealed for reconciliation and national cohesion.
He cautioned the public against political and religious infighting, comparing internal division to scoring an "own goal" in football.
"We don't need to fight each other; the person you are hurting may help you someday, and therefore you should all know that we need each other," Dr. Kaziimba urged.
The Archbishop stressed that resilience, fairness, and persistence remain vital for healing societal rifts.
Several regional dignitaries attended the service, including the Catholic Archbishop of Tororo Ecclesiastical Province, Most Rev. Emmanuel Obbo.
The Tororo gathering forms part of Dr. Kaziimba’s nationwide farewell tour before he officially hands over office next year.
